The Prisoner Learning Alliance is a network of over 200 members. Anyone with expertise in or experience of prison education is welcome to become a PLA member; our current network includes prison officers, governors, prison teachers, voluntary sector workers, academics, people with lived experience of prison, and prison education providers.

Memberships Available

There are two kinds of membership available:

  1. Individual membership (available to individuals with or without lived experience of prison, at no cost)
  2. Organisation membership (available to organisations for a small fee)

Why become a PLA member?

Both individual members and organisation members gain the following Prisoner Learning Alliance membership benefits:

  • Stay up to date on policy changes affecting prison education
  • Discover and discuss modes of good practice in prison education
  • Receive invitations to upcoming PLA events, like our popular Wednesday Webinars, and the PLA Conference and Awards
  • Be the first to read new PLA research reports and policy briefings
  • Regular opportunities to contribute to PLA briefings
  • The ability to stand for committee elections and vote for the PLA Steering Committee
  • If joining as an organisation, have the organisation’s logo featured on the Current Members website page.

Individual membership of PLA is free.

Organisations can become a member for a small annual fee, determined by income:

  • If an organisation’s income is below £500,000, the annual membership fee is £50.
  • If an organisation’s income is between £500,000 and £1million, the annual membership fee is £100.
  • If an organisation’s income is between £1million and £10million, the annual membership fee is £150.
