Digital Technology

The PLA has been advocating for increased access to digital technology in prisons since 2012.

Our aim is to encourage the Ministry of Justice to develop a well-managed strategy to increase the authorised use of technology in prisons.

This would have the following benefits:

  • Contribute to a reduction in re-offending by helping people prepare for release
  • Support the industrial strategy by addressing the nationwide skills shortage in technology-related roles
  • Offer increased access to education for prisoners during evenings and weekends
  • Contribute to a calmer prison environment and a safer working environment for prison officers

Our Task and Finish Group on Digital Technology is chaired by Ruth McFarlane and Nnamdi Efobi. It draws on the experience of PLA members working in this area.
